World Cancer Day 2021
Dental X-rays has become the growing source of human exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation. Dentists and patients are getting exposed to dental radiation on multiple occasions over many years. Given this high life-time prevalence and frequency of exposure, even a small associated increase in cancer risk would be of considerable public health importance.
With this rationale in the mind, on the occasion of World Cancer Day 2021, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University organized a webinar on ‘‘Exposing Radiation in Dentistry’’ The Guest Speaker, Dr. Sujoy Ghosh, Associate Professor, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi highlighted the aspects Of Quality Protocols, Regulatory Control and Radiation Epidemiology. Dr. Mandeep Grewal, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences encouraged the audience for such academic activities and emphasized on the fact that how much dental radiation is too much.
Dr. Shourya Tandon, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry gave his insightful remarks that how Dental radiography is a crucial topic but often overlooked and the importance of awareness on radiation exposure among dental professionals. Dr. Charu Khurana, Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Health Dentistry introduced the guest speaker and proposed the vote of thanks to acknowledge the efforts behind the organization of the webinar. The webinar was attended both physically and virtually by over 100 participants comprised of undergraduates, postgraduates, alumni and faculty members of the university.
