ABOUT DEPARTMENT

Prosthodontics is a Branch of Dentistry, which deals with the art and science of replacing the lost or missing teeth and their surrounding structures by means of artificial substitutes so as to restore the form and function of affected structures. It is a dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/ or oral and maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.

It includes the specialty of implant, aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry. Prosthodontic treatments are designed to produce a balance between functionality, longevity and esthetics.

Hence, a Prosthodontist is often referred to as the “Architect of the mouth.” Restoration of oral function is done through prostheses and restorations (i.e., complete dentures, crowns, implant retained/supported restorations). The Department offers a variety of treatments to the patients via removable or fixed prosthesis using interdisciplinary treatment planning. A complete dental & esthetic rehabilitation for occlusal disturbances, congenital or acquired defects is provided. Implants, Full dentures, removable partial dentures, crowns, veneers, laminates, bridges, splints/stents and obturators are a few of the commonly rendered services.
