Awareness Initiative on World TB Day- “Leave no one behind”
Department of Oral Pathology Faculty of Dental Sciences organized an Awareness Initiative on “World, Tuberculosis Day” 24th March 2017 to be a part in the global campaign…”Leave no one behind – Unite to end TB” which is a very big challenge for all of us.
Tuberculosis has been and remains one of the biggest killers amongst the infectious diseases afflicting humankind. Globally TB is still responsible for the deaths of about 1.5 million people annually.
Some 9 million people around the world are further infected with TB every year. The day 24th March is celebrated internationally to acknowledge the need to raise common public awareness about the epidemic disease of TB.
Oral TB has been considered to account for 0.1-5% of all TB infections. Nowadays, oral manifestations of TB are re-appearing alongside many forgotten extra pulmonary infections as a consequence of the out-break and emergence of drug-resistant TB. And such lesions we often fail to recognize.
Hence, we need to be vigilant about TB and awareness rising is an important part of that. On this day a guest lecture was organized and Dr. Bobby Bhalotra, Senior Consultant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi delivered his valuable talk on the day. He rendered his views on the topic…Tuberculosis….Yesterday, today and tomorrow. Students interacted with the speaker with their queries. The day culminated with a take back home message that we need to be together to fight and end TB.
