ABOUT DEPARTMENT


The branch of Public Health Dentistry deals with the prevention & promotion of oral health through organized community efforts. It includes more of research on oral health care and general dentistry at the out-reach levels. The department undertakes undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs.

The faculty and postgraduates at the department are involved in organizing out-reach dental care camps along with the help of the public relations department, which helps render dental health care to the people at their doorsteps. The dental college, hospital and research center caters to oral health needs of a large number of patients from the surrounding 150 villages especially from low income groups, thus providing to the area, a state of the art dental facility. These services involve providing comprehensive oral health check-up, oral health treatment and referral to the specialized departments at the college for remaining basic and advanced treatment. These people are also given basic oral health education by use of live demonstrations and oral health education posters. School oral health camps are conducted to ensure dissemination of knowledge regarding oral health and hygiene at a younger age and securing healthy adult life. The camp team comprises of faculty, postgraduates and interns from various speciality departments.

Free transport facility for the patients and a dental treatment at a nominal cost is provided. As a result, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University can boast of the highest number of patients than any other private college in the NCR. India is a vast country with a population of more than one billion. There are several factors that affect the oral health of the children, adults and elderly at any point of time. Community oral health programs of our dental college, hospital and research center have been designed with the basic objective of alleviating and preventing the burden of oral diseases in our society. Research work to better understand the oral health behaviour patterns and factors affecting oral health have been undertaken in various fields ranging from behavioural sciences to planning oral health care services for the underprivileged groups in the state of Haryana.
