Preamble:
Anatomy is the cornerstone of medical education. It is the study of structure of human body in all it’s totality. Understanding the organs, their structures & correlating it with their physiology leads to a truly holistic approach which can help the clinicians to understand the intricacies of disease, their presentations and mode of treatment.
Goal:
The primary goal of anatomy pedagogy of undergraduate students aims at providing comprehensive knowledge of gross, microscopic and developmental anatomy of human body. To make them adept in establishing the correlation between organs/structures involved and disease presentations.
Objectives:
A : Knowledge
- Comprehend the normal gross and microscopic structure as a pre requisite for understanding the altered state in various disease processes.
- Comprehend the basic principles and sequential development of the organs and systems, recognize the critical stages of development as a pre requisite to explain the developmental basis of the major congenital anomalies and malformations. To have elementary knowledge of the effects of common teratogens, genetic mutations and environmental hazards for understanding the altered state in various disease processes.
B : Skills
At the end of the course the student shall be able to;
- Identify and locate all the structures of the body
- Mark the topography of the living anatomy.
- Identify the organs and tissues under the microscope.
- Understand the principles of karyotyping and
- Identity the gross congenital anomalies.
C : Integration
Integrated teaching of basic sciences subjects, will make the student adept in comprehending the correlation between structure and functions of the organs and systems in the body and thus interpret the anatomical basis of disease process.
Duration of Study: One year full-time program (650 hours of teaching)
