Report On Oral Health Awareness Drive
DLF PHASE IV, 6TH AUGUST, 2017 (SUNDAY)
The Department of Public Health Dentistry of Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University in association with National Human Care Foundation (NHFC), conducted an Oral Health Awareness Drive on 6th August 2017 at DLF Phase IV, Gurugram, Haryana. The awareness activity was conducted to motivate dental hygiene maintenance and provide basic dental health education to the children living in slums and who do not have access to dental treatment. The activity was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Shourya Tandon (Professor). Dental specialists reached the place at 8.30 a.m to organize the activity systematically. Dr. Shourya Tandon (Professor) headed the dental check up activity along with Dr. Kriti Jain (Assistant Professor), Dr. Sonia Raina (Post Graduate Student) along with two interns and one attendant. Dr. Kriti highlighted the role of treatment required for Cleft lip and Cleft palate in her discussion with parents of all the children. The activity started at 8.45 am and continued till 11 am. Around 97 patients were examined. Most of the patients were diagnosed with dental caries, grossly decayed teeth and calculus. Post the dental check up, majority of the patients were advised to undergo further treatment of cleaning, filling and removal of teeth. Patients were given referral cards and were referred to SGT University for further procedures. Along with the free dental check up, toothpastes and toothbrushes were also distributed to the patients with support of Colgate Pvt. Ltd. The session was concluded by distributing pamphlets which had oral hygiene instructions and awareness related to common oral diseases. The purpose of the activity was to create awareness among the community and make them understand the importance of oral health care. At the end of it, it achieved its goal of reaching out to the underprivileged section of the society, citing to them the importance of good oral health which is so often neglected by this strata of the society.
