Workshop on Tobacco Cessation
Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology, FDS, SGT University organized a Workshop on “Tobacco cessation” on 25th May 2019 from 9.30 am to 2 pm at TV studio, B block (FDS) 3rd floor to create awareness of harmful effects of tobacco use in lieu of World No tobacco day. The workshop was organized by Tobacco Cessation Clinic, Dept. of Oral Medicine and Radiology. A team from MAIDS, New Delhi comprising of Dr. Vikrant Mohanty, Prof. and HoD, dept. of Public health dentistry MAIDS and Dr. Puneet Chahar, Research officer VMMC. They trained the delegates on how to approach a patient who uses any form of tobacco and what steps to be taken to motivate the patients to stop the habit of using tobacco. They also share their different cases and told about the NRT therapy by explaining how and when to give different pharmacological tobacco replacement. A total of 90 delegates, including Interns, Post Gradutes and Faculty members from Faculty of Dental sciences, Faculty of Medical and health sciences, Faculty of Ayurveda attended and benefitted from the workshop.
Role of Neuromuscular Dentistry in the management of Craniofacial Pain & Sleep Apnea
A CDE ON “Role of Neuromuscular Dentistry in the management of Craniofacial Pain & Sleep Apnea” was organized by the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, FDS, on 18th March 2019. Dr. Rajesh Raveendranathan, Founder President of ICCMO-India section (International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics), a pioneer in the Neuromuscular Dentistry, Dental Sleep Medicine and Dental Sports Medicine, was the guest speaker for the event. The program was attended by delegates from All the dental departments, and Dept of ENT, Physiotherapy, Neurophysiology. The management of Craniofacial Pain and Sleep Apnea following the protocols of Neuromuscular Dentistry were highlighted. This new super specialty in dentistry will add new dimensions to the dental practice.
BASIC LIFE SUPPORT- WORKSHOP
A WORKSHOP ON “BASIC LIFE SUPPORT” was organized by the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, FDS, under the aegis of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine & Radiology on 16th and 17th March 2018. The participants included interns, undergraduate and post graduates students, residents, faculty members from, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Medicine & health research, Faculty of Indian medical system, Faculty of Nursing, & faculty of Physiotherapy. Around 108 delegates from various centres like Jamia Milia Islamia Dental college, Private practioners from Bareli, Gurugram participated in the workshop.
Facilitators of the program were, Dr M.Anand, Emergency physician, Dr. Ravindra Verma, Emergency physician, and Mr. Chaitanya, instructor from ITC, International trauma care, Hyderabad Chapter.
LASERS in dentistry – An Insight
Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology with Department of Conservative Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University under the aegis of SOLA academy, organized a continued dental education programme “LASERS in dentistry – An Insight Be a part of paradigm shift, Be the first laser dentist!”On Friday, 27th October, 2015. The inaugural program was presided by Dr. Anil Kohli, former President of DCI
Updating knowledge through continued CDE programmes is a regular feature of the department. The department had recently conducted a CDE programme on “Emerging trends in Oral Medicine and Radiology- Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” on 13th March 2015. The programme involved guest lectures by pioneers in the field : Dr. Srinivasan and Dr. Sharad Sahai. The success of the programme and active participation of the students is inspiring us to plan many such programmes in near future.
The department had earlier conducted CDE programme on 30th March 2011 on “Oral clinicians role in diagnosing systemic disease, forensic odontology and jaw bone tumors”.
FIRST TIME IN DELHI/NCR, LIVE SURGERIES WITH ERBIUM, Nd: YAG LASER & CO₂ LASERS
Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University is organizing a CDE programme on Lasers in Dentistry: An Insight, on Tuesday 27th Oct, 2015.
Speakers of International repute will be delivering guest lectures in the prestigious event. The CDE programme will comprise of brainstorming lectures as well as Live Demo on hard and soft tissues.
Highlights of the event are demonstration of laser applications in implant surgeries, apicoetomy, treatment of potentially malignant lesions, root canal disinfection, pulpotomy and pulp caping procedures.

“ LASERS IN DENTISTRY – AN INSIGHT”
CDE on “ LASERS IN DENTISTRY - AN INSIGHT ” was organized on 27th October 2015 at SGT University medical auditorium in august presence of Mr Manmohan Singh Chawla, Chairperson; Dr.Shyam Singla, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Kamlesh Kohli ,Director ,SGT University & various other Deans and university officials. The dignitaries from dental as well as medical professionals who have graced the occasion were Deans and Head Of Various Dental Department including Dr Arundeep Singh , Dean, Manav Rachna Dental College; Dr Saranjeet Singh ,Dean, Jamia Hamdard Dental College; Dr Pankaj Datta,Dean, Indrapastha Dental College; and head of departments including Dr Manu Rathi (HOD ,Dept of Prosthodontics ,PGIDS,Rohtak),Dr Vishal Dang (HOD ,Dept of OMDR, Manav Rachna Dental College), Dr Amina Sultan (HOD,Pedodontics, Jamia Hamdard Dental College) and Dr Anusuya(HOD,OMDR, Sharda Dental College).
The programme started well on time by first lecture by Dr Naresh Thukral on”Orientation to lasers in dentistry in oral diseases” followed by lecture by Dr Anil Shah tilted” know how about lasers” where he showcased various soft tissue and hard tissue application of lasers. During the inaugural function, the Dean, Dr. Akshay Bhargava welcomed the gathering and the whole program saw meticulous planning & execution by the Department of Oral Medicine under the leadership of Dr. G.N. Suma. The chief guest of program was Hony. Bridg ( Dr) Anil Kohli, Padam Shree Padam Bhushan , Dr BC Roy Awardee ,Formal President DCI. He addressed the gathering and congratulated the faculty of dental sciences for organizing an extensive event to increase awareness and knowledge regarding clinical application of lasers in dentistry with live demonstration of almost ten clinical cases.
Dr Sanjay Jain spoke on “Lasers ..newer treatment modality in periodontics and implantology” in which he highlighted the newer advances and treatment options available with lasers in periodontics. Dr Vivek Hegde, a well renowned academician and orator in endodontics gave a clinical insig ht of lasers in endodontics through his lecture on” lasers in conservative dentistry and endodontics” .
The CDE programme updated the laser application in dentistry with live demonstration of lasers on clinical cases including soft tissue lasers in OSMF, leukoplakia, gingivectomy, frenectomy and hard tissue lasers including apicetomy, dentinal hypersensitivity, class V cavity preparation , root canal sterilization and socket sterilization in immediate implant case. The live demonstrations were much appreciated and very well applauded by all delegates attended.
Poster presentations were invited from UG/PG and Faculty on the theme of lasers in dentistry .Out of 25 posters received for the UG/PG students and faculty members categories as a mark of encouragement the following honors were also awarded. In UG poster prize categories were won by Ayesha Jabeen from Jamia Dental College and Apurva from SGT dental college. In PG category, Dr Yogesh from ITS dental college and Dr Digvijay from Subharti dental college won the best poster prize. Dr Poonam Malik from PGIDS, Rohtak ,Dr Virender from Jamia Dental College and Dr Manprret Arora and Dr Pulin from SGT dental college won the best poster presentation.
The event turned out to be the perfect platform for enhancing clinical skill and acumen for lasers in dentistry.
