Webinar on Reaching the Unreached (Community Outreach Programmes)

Community outreach programs are important tools for bringing health education and screening services directly to community members and help in reducing health disparities. Community outreach opportunities provide ways for people to make difference in someone’s life and realize the beauty of selflessness. Keeping this in mind INNOVA8 Oral Health Care, an academic association constituted under the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University organized a webinar on the topic “Reaching the Unreached (Community Outreach Programs) on 21st December 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm for BDS third Year, BDS final Year and Interns. The guest speaker was Dr. Denzy Lawrence (Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Bapuji Dental College, Davangere, Karnataka). He covered various aspects of conducting successful community outreach programs and he also motivated undergraduate students to take part in outreach activities with zeal and enthusiasm.

Complete organization and conduction of the event were undertaken by the office bearers of the academic association. Student Secretary of the association & BDS Fnal year student, Mr. Mukul Mahalwal was the Master of Ceremony and the speaker was introduced by another BDS Final Year student Mr. Ishan Taneja, student representative of the academic association. The vote of thanks was delivered by BDS Final year student Ms. Anchal Gupta, student executive member of the academic association. Dr. Sachin Chand, advisor & Dr. Meenakshi Chopra, co-advisor of the academic association were convenor and co-convenor respectively of the event which was moderated by Dr. Abhinav Bhargava, co-advisor of the academic association. Dr. Anil Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences graces the occasion and gave his valuable insight. Dr. Shourya Tandon, Associate Dean & Professor, and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry gave his insightful remarks and rightfully justified the need to undertake such outreach activities in the field of Public Health Dentistry. Sir, also highlighted the various outreach endeavors which we have been undertaking on behalf of SGT University. The webinar was attended both physically and virtually by over 100 participants mainly interns, final year students, third-year students, and faculty members. The event was a fruitful learning session, was appreciated by students and interns for the valuable and relevant information, and left students wanting to attend outreach dental programs in the future.
